Classic Sled Roundup St. Germain, Wisconsin May 27th, 2007
On the weekend of May 27th, my family loaded a couple of sleds to swap and headed to the Eagle River area to take in the Classic Sled Roundup organized by the Snowmobile Hall of Fame and Museum and sponsored by Arctic Cat. The vintage show, located in the community park, included many classes of judged classes. The swap area was especially active, with many vendors selling at a rapid pace. In fact, I sold both of my swap sleds within 10 minutes of parking. Race buffs were certainly in their element, with Bill Stull displaying a 1973 Rupp Magnum "Sperry Special" Sno Pro raced by Jay Sperry. In addition, there was an award ceremony for the Vintage SnoPro Series Championship and a special display regarding Hall O Fame co-founder C J Ramstad, a noted snowmobile photographer who recently passed away. Yamaha even provided a race winning snowmobile for fans to have their pictures taken with and my family took advantage of that great opportunity. Below left, is my daughter, Savannah on the sled. Below, right, is my son Dustin and me on the sled. What fun!
There were some really great sleds at this show, including a 1947 Eliason, a set of nice Rupps displayed by Joe Francis, a couple of rare RXL Polaris racers, a 1975 Rupp F/A, a clean 1968 Sno*Jet, a 1971 Rupp W/T 793 custom sled, a 1973 Ski Doo Blizzard 340, and Gene Bloom's original 1973 Rupp 440 Magnum race sled.
